Well I have the post panto cold.
In between nose blowing etc i have been listening to Audio books...........the red house a who dunnit by A.a.Milne not a bad story, and now Portrait of the artist as a young man by Joyce.............oh boy the catholic guilt is strong in this.How awful that a young child should have felt such guilt and fear about his God.The God i worship is a God of love and forgiveness not a God who wants a young child terrified.
The cruelty of the monks who looked after him at school meant he spent most of his schooldays terrified.
Going to a boarding school can be traumatic enough without cruelty.
Religion shouldn't be about fear.Neither should it be used as an excuse to bully or control others.
Organised religion has put so many people off believing in a God of love,yet he is out there waiting for us,caring for us,Loving us.
If any should face his wrath, it should be those who abuse in the name of religion,because apart from the damage they do ,they turn others away from God by their actions.Surely the biggest sin of all.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son...............that is the God i have faith in,not the terrifying God of those Priests.
